If an unidentified person knocks on your door, it is safer to not open your door and keep it locked, especially if you are home alone, you should ask this person from behind your door to state their business, if that person seems likely to cause you trouble and did not leave, call 911 immediately then remain calm and on the line with the police until the officers arrive.

If a fire erupts in your apartment or anywhere else in the building and is too big to be put out, activate the nearest fire alarm, evacuate the building immediately, then call 911 and call us as well.
